Trusting
There’s this story in the Bible where a prophet goes to a woman’s home where she and her son are living. She has only enough oil and flour to make one more meal for her and her son. Can you imagine? It’s so stressful when our fridge gets low and I have to go to the store again for all our favorites. This woman has enough flour and oil for one more meal, and yet at this time is when God chooses to send the prophet to her home and beg for food. She tells the man she has only enough for them before they die, at least with one last meal. She is literally giving up, not out of boredom or oh I can’t do this or I don’t feel like it or there’s gotta be something better for me out there, or I’m just so tired… she literally has nothing left after this one meal and is just going to have nothing left to sustain them. Yet the prophet begs, and she feeds him first. At this moment, the oil does not run out, the flour does not run out, and there is more than enough. God lets them know through the prophet that there will be enough forever, that they will never run dry. They will never be left without provision. They will be kept safe. They will be sustained. Like a beautiful piano note that literally endures forever. How is this accomplished? Through faith. The strongest equilibrium out there. Faith. I struggle on a secondly basis with faith. I struggle to believe that God is good. I struggle to believe that I have enough. I struggle. Do you struggle? We have enough. Our God will never ever abandon us. He will send whatever we need our way. Whether a kind word, or a faithful friend, or an enduring memory, or a freedom to surrender. Sometimes the hard thing is letting go, knowing we are losing control. Knowing that things won’t go our way, and paying attention. Seeing the small things and noticing the good ALL around us. We don’t have to try to surrender. We just have to let go. Give it away. Give it to Jesus. Give it to abba father God. He loves you. He cares for you. You are never alone. You will always have enough in Jesus our Lord. Amen.

P.S. The story from the Bible is found here: 1 Kings 17:8-15. After reading it again, the story actually says that she had food for a long time, as the prophet told her this would last until the famine ended. See there was a reason they did not have enough. They were in a famine. And God fed them. If you or someone you know is in a famine, don’t give up hope. You can do this. You are not alone. God will be able to help you as you lean on him. I am learning to do this, learning to let go, and learning to trust Him. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
